About Texas Canyon

North of Santa Clarita, Texas Canyon (also called Table Rock) is a cluster of conglomerate fins and corridors at about 2,500 feet in the Angeles National Forest. The cobbled, pocketed rock is covered in bolted routes, and many of them are easy, which makes it one of the best places near LA to learn.

Most walls are within a few minutes' walk of the car, there are shady corridors for warmer days, and slabs like Hyperion offer short two-pitch routes for climbers ready for a taste of multi-pitch. The setting is classic SoCal high desert: yucca, chaparral and big skies.

Highlights

  • Dozens of bolted routes from 5.2 to 5.9
  • Short approaches and shady corridors
  • Short two-pitch routes for a first taste of multi-pitch
  • Roadside parking, minutes from the rock

Access and permits

Access
Roadside parking below the gate on Rush Canyon Road (the last stretch is graded dirt); display an Adventure Pass, which we provide. The rock is fragile when damp, so we skip it for several days after storms. The area can close during high fire danger or flooding; no toilets or reliable cell service.
Permits
Commercial guiding on national forest land requires a Forest Service outfitter-guide special use permit.

We only guide where we're authorized. We follow the land manager's rules on group size, closures and fire weather. If weather, fire danger or a closure means we have to cancel, you get a full refund or a free reschedule (see our cancellation policy).
